This morning, Nevada Highway Patrol was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash involving two vehicles at Pyramid Way and Queen Way in Sparks.Troopers say according to the preliminary crash investigation details, a white 2006 Chevy Tahoe, driven by Gregory Hamand of Sparks, was making a left- hand turn onto Queen Way from the southbound turn lane on Pyramid Way. Hamand failed to see or yield to a silver 2006 GMC Jimmy, driven by Lori Ashtiani of Sparks, that was traveling north on Pyramid Way approaching the intersection. Hamand proceeded to make the turn into the intersection and drove into the path of the GMC when his Chevy SUV was hit on the right side. The force of the collision caused the Chevy to roll over onto its left side blocking one lane of travel on Queen Way. The GMC continued to travel forward and came to rest just north of where the collision took place near the right shoulder of Pyramid Way.
Ashtiani received minor injuries in the collision and was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center by REMSA personnel. Hamand and his female passenger received very minor or superficial injuries. He was cited by troopers at the scene for failing to yield to another motorist.
All lanes on Pyramid Way, except for the northbound right-hand turn lane turn lane to Queen Way, remained open while both directions of travel on Queen Way were closed near the intersection for about an hour to complete the on-scene portion of the investigation and upright and remove the Chevy Tahoe.
