LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Las Vegas veterans affairs advocate says he provided a ballistic vest to a Nevada state lawmaker who's now fighting to keep his seat in the Legislature amid criminal and personal issues.

Veterans in Politics president and Internet talk show host Steve Sanson said Thursday that Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks also wanted night vision goggles but didn't get them.

Brooks' lawyer Mitchell Posin says he didn't know Brooks had a bulletproof vest.

Sanson says Brooks obtained the body armor after his Jan. 19 arrest in North Las Vegas in a car with a gun and ammunition.

Brooks was accused of wanting to harm Democratic Assembly leader Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

Sanson talked about Brooks and the vest on his talk show last weekend.

KVVU-TV Fox 5 reported about it on Thursday (http://bit.ly/10SacgP ).
