RENO, Nev. (Mynews4.com & KRNV) -- The Washoe County School District is hoping to recruit volunteers to work with students and staff during the upcoming school year Tuesday morning.

Over the summer, Volunteers worked at a number of WCSD schools, tutoring students who are participating in summer school programs including Striving Readers and Zoom School Summer Academies. This week, these volunteers -- who are college students working in the summer AmeriCorps and VISTA program -- are helping staff members begin registering students for the new school year.

These volunteers will be working at McQueen High School on July 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to help acquaint new volunteers with the program.

Lisa-Marie Lightfoot, coordinator of Volunteer Services for the Washoe County School District, will be available to discuss what volunteers have done this summer, and discuss the overwhelming need for volunteers to tutor students and help staff members. Current volunteers will also be able to talk about how they have helped students, what assignments they have held, and what they learned from their time in the District this summer.
