RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- Washoe County School District students were honored at the Nevada Thespian State Conference where more than 600 students from the state came together.

Students from the Performing Arts Center (PAC), a Signature Academy of the Washoe County School District at Damonte Ranch High School, earned the top superior rating for their one-act play, which is a ghost story by Stephen Gregg called “One Lane Bridge.” The superior rating qualifies the cast to perform their play as part of the Chapter Select Showcase at the International Thespian Festival (ITF) held in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 24-29.

Several other Damonte Ranch High School students scored superior ratings outside the one-act play. Roman Barry earned a superior rating in Set Design with a perfect score. Roman was awarded a scholarship, and his fee to compete at the ITF was waived. In addition, Isaac Hickox-Young, Jessica Johnson, and Jose Olivares all earned Superiors in Contrasting Monologue performances, with Olivares also earning a Superior in Solo Musical Theatre. Olivares was one of just three students who received scholarships from Nevada Thespians to use at the college of his choice this fall.

Prior to the state conference, students in Washoe County demonstrated their skill at the Northern Nevada Theatre Festival (NNTF) held at Damonte Ranch High School last month. At the festival, students from all over Northern Nevada came together to perform their acts in front of judges.

Public donations can be made directly to the Damonte Ranch drama program to help students attend the ITF in Nebraska this summer. The registration deadline for the event is May 1.

For more information on how you can donate and support the PAC students at Damonte, please call Rod Hearn at 334-7221 or email him at RHearn@washoeschools.net.

PAC at Damonte Ranch is open to all students. Auditions for acceptance into the 2013-2014 drama, dance, and/or music programs are being scheduled, with online applications due February 1. For more information, call 775-334-7150.
