SAND HARBOR, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) – On Friday morning, near the Sand Harbor Boat Ramp, paddle boarders out to enjoy the beauty of Lake Tahoe, instead, made a grim discovery. They found a deceased man under water.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s office is actively investigating the incident, which is the third death or drowning type of incident at the popular beach in a month.
A witness tells News 4 he found the unidentified male under water, but did not wish to recount his experience further. Washoe County Deputies and North Lake Tahoe firefighters arrived on scene shortly after 10:50 a.m.
"Upon arrival there was a deceased male that was taken from the lake,” according to Lieutenant Jeffery Clark, WCSO.
The man had swim trunks on. The medical examiner covered his body from public view and transported the body away from the scene.
Clark says the death investigation is just starting and there are still too many unknowns. Detectives have not ruled this death a drowning.
"We're not at this point. We just don't know. It would be unfair to say it was a drowning," he says.
Investigators have not determined a time of death, cause of death, or a positive identification of the man.
The medical examiner hopes to conduct an exam tomorrow.
As part of the investigation, the sheriff’s office is collecting witness accounts. Anyone with information on this man, or his whereabouts before his death is asked to call the Washoe County Sheriff's Detective Unit.
