RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - Walmart says that in the coming weeks Americans will begin collecting over $31 billion dollars in tax refund checks. Now the superstore is expanding its financial services with that thought in mind. Walmart is teaming up with Jackson Hewitt and H&R Block, adding over 3,000 tax preparation kiosks in its stores nationwide.
The goal is to provide low cost tax services for customers and draw more shoppers into its stores. The Walmart kiosks work like your usual tax preparation service but they offer a few extra incentives. Customers who file using the 1040EZ form in the store will get audit assistance and refund estimates for free. Shoppers will also have the option of having their returns deposited to their checking account or a Walmart pre-paid debit card, which could be useful for people who don't have checking accounts. Walmart also says it will cash refund checks worth up to $7,500 but that service will carry a fee. Walmart already offers other financial services including bill paying services and money order transactions.
