Washoe County Democratic Party elects new leader

RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Democratic Party of Washoe County (WashoeDEMS) elected Janice Flanagan, a longtime Reno activist, as its Chair to lead the new 2013-2015 Executive Board on Apr. 2.

Flanagan succeeds Dorie Guy, who was Chair during the term 2011-2013.

Other officers elected to the new board include First Vice Chair Rudy Viola, Second Vice Chair Mary Conelly, Secretary Dean Schermerhorn and Treasurer Laurie Haley. Pam duPre continues as the Party’s Executive Director.

Flanagan, a longtime Washoe County citizen, has been a Democratic activist as well as a member of American Association of University Women and League of Women Voters. She has lobbied the Nevada State Legislature on women and children’s issues.

The Executive Board is responsible for encouraging and facilitating the participation of Democrats in Party activities; recruiting and assisting members to seek public office; supporting Democrats in elected offices; and advancing the principles and positions of the Democratic Party.
