RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Commissioners voted to move the Washoe County Regional Animal Services to a stand-alone department that will report to the county manager's office.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office has managed animal services since 2012. Assistant County Manager Kevin Schiller says he's very confident they will do well as a stand-alone department. Commissioners expressed interest in creating an animal advisory board made up of community members. Schiller says they'll bring the suggestion back for discussion at a future board meeting.
