RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is warning residents of a new twist on the "arrest warrant" scam.

Scammers posed as sheriff's office personnel call residents of Washoe County to tell them that they owe money on an outstanding traffic ticket. The caller tells the resident they have been cited for speeding based on a "photo ticket" from an intersection camera. The resident is told they have missed a court date set on the ticket and now owe money.

The Sheriff's Office says it does not use traffic cameras at intersections to issue traffic citations, nor does it negotiate fines over the phone. If you have been a victim of this scam, or received such a call contact the Washoe County Sheriff's Office immediately at (775) 328-3001.
