RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A draft plan is available for public input about future uses and preservation of this popular outdoor recreation area. Red Hill is a landmark natural formation overlooking the Truckee Meadows from the north and providing spectacular views of Reno and its vicinity. Unique rock outcroppings along with a variety of desert plants and wildlife add to its attraction as a popular area for outdoor recreation.

Thanks to a project assistance grant from the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance program, Washoe County’s Department of Regional Parks and Open Space has been working to develop a comprehensive plan Red Hill.

The Department has been working with Sun Valley residents and other community partners for over a year on proposed plans for the 438-acre open space area. Proposed plans include:

•development of a non-motorized trail system with trailheads
•outdoor classroom
•native interpretive garden
•community art components
•conservation of sensitive habitat and restoration of disturbed areas
•additional passive recreational uses based upon public input and available resources
•expanding the area through future land acquisitions

The draft Red Hill Master Plan is now available for review at: www.washoecountyparks.com. The public is encouraged to review that plan and provide comment to Park Planner Jennifer Budge no later than Thursday, August 8, 2012.

Comments may be submitted by email to jbudge@washoecounty.us or mailed to Jennifer Budge at 2601 Plumas Street, Reno, NV 89509.
