ELY, Nev. (AP) — A veteran firefighter who got his start as a volunteer fireman more 30 years ago has been named White Pine County's new district fire chief.
County commissioners recently voted earlier this month to approve Brett Waters as the replacement for John Shearman, who resigned earlier this year.
Waters grew up in a small mining town in Montana that he says reminds him of northeast Nevada. He says he appreciates small communities and their dedicated staffs, regardless of whether they get a paycheck or work as volunteers.
The Ely Times reports he's expected to begin his new job on Feb. 3.
