RENO, Nev. (Mynews4.com & KRNV) - "Until I receive a final report from the Fire Department as far as I'm concerned the investigation has not been closed yet," said Marshall Emerson, Washoe County Assistant Sheriff on Friday morning. But only a few hours later, Reno Fire Department Chief Michael Hernandez told News 4, "With regards to the Fire Department it is complete. We completed a thorough investigation."
Washoe County Sheriff's Office says they are unable to close an investigation into the Washoe Drive Fire because they are waiting for a final report by the Reno Fire Department. But the Reno Fire Department's stance is that they have already completed their report.
As News 4 first reported Thursday, the District Attorney met with the Sheriff's Office this week to discuss the latest in the investigation. All fingers pointed to the Reno Fire Department as to why the investigation was at a standstill and why charges have yet to be filed.
But according to Chief Hernandez, they completed their report in April 2012 and they were never asked for anything further. "I will likely be contacting both entities to find out where the miscommunication is and again if they need something from the Fire Department we will be more than happy to help," he said.
If the report stands as is, there will not be any charges because the Sheriff's Office has said that based on the current report a crime was not committed. When all of this will be finalized is unknown and the one year anniversary of the Washoe Drive Fire is January 19, 2013.
