CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Wilbur Faiss, Nevada's oldest former state legislator, has died.
Faiss died Saturday in Carson City, where he had been hospitalized for three weeks. He was 102.
He marked his birthday on Oct. 14 at Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center surrounded by family.
According to his family, he was being treated for a variety of ailments, but one doctor described the cause of death as old age.
His death comes about a year after the passing of his wife, Theresa. The two were honored in 2012 as the longest married couple in the United States, and President Barack Obama congratulated them on 79 years of marriage.
Wilbur Faiss was elected to the state Senate in 1977. The North Las Vegas Democrat said his proudest moment was voting for the Equal Rights Amendment.
