WINNEMUCCA, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- Police in Humboldt County are searching for a missing teenager.

According to the Winnemucca Police Department, 16-year-old Savanna Brin was last seen in Winnemucca on Wednesday. Hopefully she'll be found safe and sound. This is where the Humboldt Sheriff's could earn back some goodwill by using their resources to go out and find her instead of confiscating cash from out of state drivers. Are you deputies up for some meaningful police work????

People are not their reading scores. We do not use terms like "mental capacity of a fourth grader." They you g woman may have intellectual or developmental disabilities, but she is her stated age. She has lived every one of those 14 years. Using "mental age of..." Is a stereotyping that occurs to people with disabilities frequently. It is called infantizing. Train your reporters to use language more appropriately. Even if its a quote, you wouldn't perpetuate racial or gender stereotypes by repeating them.
