ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A 50-year-old Winnemucca man was killed in a weekend crash on U.S. Interstate 80 about 35 miles west of Elko.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says Aristeo Aguilar-Perez was a passenger in a Ford F250 pickup that collided with a semi's trailer while both were headed eastbound about 7 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators say the pickup driver, 39-year-old Cesar Zamayoa of Winnemucca, came upon a slower Peterbilt truck pulling a set of double trailers. He didn't react soon enough and clipped the trailer when he tried to pass.

Aguilar-Perez was ejected and died. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

Zamoya was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The semi driver, 54-year-old Diana Kemper of Carlin, was not hurt.

The patrol says alcohol may have played a role. The crash remains under investigation.
