RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- One woman is dead after an apartment fire in south Reno.
According to the Battalion Chief Steve Leighton, the Reno Fire Department responded to a call in the 600-block of East Patriot Boulevard at around 5:30 p.m. on Friday. There was smoke protruding out of one unit on the first floor of the residential apartment building. Crews forced entry into the apartment, distinguished the fire and found an unconscious female lying on the floor.
Firefighters pulled her out of the apartment and began resuscitation efforts, including CPR, but they were unsuccessful. The woman had third-degree burns to 40-percent of her body, but the exact cause of death is under investigation pending the results of a coroner's autopsy. Her identity is being withheld at this time.
The cause of the fire was carelessly discarded cigarettes.
