RENO, Nev. (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- A committee organized to address the needs of female Veterans in our community met for the first time Wednesday.

The first Women Veterans Advisory Committee was established by Governor Brian Sandoval. With 10 percent of Nevada's Veteran population being women, the committee will help with state-wide efforts on issues concerning all veterans, and specifically, the needs of female vets.

"The VA hospitals in Las Vegas and in Reno and clinics throughout the state have increased offerings for women veterans but they still would like to see a bit more. They also have a need to socialize and to come together as women to discuss their shared experiences and the other thing that we're looking at is employment," said Director of Nevada Department of Veterans Services Kat Miller.

The committee is set to meet quarterly until June of 2015.
