ROSA KHUTOR, Russia (MyNews4.com & KRNV) -- It's double gold for the USA, and the Lake Tahoe region.
Two days after Reno resident David Wise won the Olympic gold medal in Ski Halfpipe, South Lake Tahoe native Maddie Bowman earned gold in the women's version of the same event.
Bowman sat in third place after the qualification round. During her first run, she scored 85.80 to lead Marie Martinod's 84.80. In the second run, Martinod briefly took the lead with an 85.40, but Bowman reclaimed the top spot on the podium with an 89.00 run.
France's Martinod earned the silver, and Japan's Ayana Onozuka won the bronze.
This is the first time the Ski Halfpipe event has been staged at the Winter Olympics.
