Fernley, NV (KRNV & MyNews4.com) -- A local ceremony for Wreaths Across America will take place on December 14, 2013 in Fernley at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Tom Draughon with the Northern Nevada Veterans Coalition Honor Guard says, "Every veteran deserves an honor and remembrance and this is just one of the ways we can do that."
On December 14th at 9:00a.m. PST, thousands of Americans will lay wreaths at more than 800 locations across the nation to pay tribute to our fallen heroes this holiday season.
In 2007, 28 wreaths were laid on graves at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery. As the tradition of Wreaths Across America has grown, so have the efforts in northern Nevada. Draughon says 1634 wreaths were laid in 2012.There are 7,500 veterans laid to rest at the cemetery in Fernley and one day Draughon hopes a wreath will be laid on every single grave, "They all have a story to tell, so I always tell everybody when they come out here and place a wreath, take a moment, take a look at the grave site and the name, just step back and say we remember you, thank you."
For every two wreaths purchased from the Northern Nevada Veterans Coalition, the Worchester Wreath Company donates one wreath.
