SPARKS, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - They say one man's trash in another man's treasure. A Sparks family, is trying to turn a yard sale into the gift of hearing for their baby girl.

"Nemo is one of my sons favorite cartoons, and Nemo has a lucky fin,” explains Hillary Priest. “So we decided that Lilyana has a lucky ear."

Three-month-old baby, Lilyanna, was born with an inner and outer ear anomaly and cannot hear out of her right ear.

“She doesn't have the ear canal, [and] the bones inside her ear... didn't connect.” Says Priest. “Her ear drum is not complete.”

The Priests say Lilyana will need two to five reconstructive surgeries at UC Davis. Insurance will cover it, but they still needed a way to cover travel and accommodation expenses.

"I think the yard sale came out of desperation really. We couldn't really think of how to earn the money," says Priest.

The yard sale is paying off. Over the weekend, they raised about $250 from selling left over items in the house.

"It's amazing the things in your own home you can find that you don't really need if the money from them can go to help your child," Priest says.

They say they can't believe how supportive neighbors and strangers have been.

"We even had some really cute yard salers, who when they read our sign, have brought bags of stuff to donate to sell."

All to help one little baby and her lucky ear.
