CARSON CITY, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - The call from Crystal Sexton's daughter's Carson Middle School came as a complete shock.
“I've been in tears the last couple of days. I can't sleep. I'm worried about her,” Sexton said.
District leaders said 14-year-old Brianna was tased because the Sheriff’s school resource female deputy couldn't restrain the cheerleader while the teen was being arrested for disrupting the classroom.
“This is a bigger woman, and if she cannot handle a teenage child, then she should not be a police officer,” Sexton said.
Superintendent Richard Stokes is launching an internal investigation, but he has faith staff did the right thing.
“They're very competent professionals. I have full trust in their actions,” he said.
The mom of the tased teen does say her daughter was already on probation at the time for playing with a lighter and accidently starting a small fire in a field.
“She's a typical teenage yeah, they talk back, but she is really a good kid,” Sexton said.
The family has filed a formal complaint against the deputy - and the Sheriff's office hopes to complete their review quickly in an effort to take the sting out of this situation for both sides.
