RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - A new political endorsement is making some people uneasy because it's supposed to go out in the same envelope as your paycheck. The paper reads clearly at the top, “vote for these Chamber endorsed candidates.” Following that are 21 names of mostly Republicans, a few democrats and several non-partisan people.
2,500 local businesses received the lists to hand out from the Sparks-Reno Chamber of Commerce which says they never meant it to be threatening.
“Employees should take it seriously. Their boss has their best interest in mind. And their company's best interest in mind,” Tray Abney of The Chamber said.
Nevada's secretary of state's office said they needed more information before weighing in on this particular candidate endorsement, but general slate cards, as they're called, are legal unless they come with a direct threat to your job.
