RENO, Nev. (KRNV & MyNews4.com) - A new independent audit has found quote "material weaknesses" and "significant deficiencies" in the way the City of Reno makes sure your tax dollars aren't being misused.
It all deals with Reno’s oversight of several federal grants like the SAFER one which went towards firefighters. The audit basically found Reno only has one person sign off of transactions involving money from those grants. Although there's no evidence that anything wrong actually happened here, that single check system could lead to tax dollars being used for the wrong reasons or the city not reviewing their full awarded amount from the federal government
The audit is expected to be finalized Wednesday by the City Council, but City Manager Andrew Clinger says they've already added a second person to help verify those grant payments.
