SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Authorities say one person is dead and a second person is in the hospital following a one-alarm fire in San Francisco.
Lt. Mindy Talmadge, a fire department spokeswoman, says crews responded to the blaze inside a two-story public housing building shortly before 10 a.m. in the city's Sunnydale neighborhood.
Talmadge says firefighters who were on the scene trying to rescue five adults and one child, saw residents jumping out of windows to escape the flames and heavy smoke that broke out on the first floor.
She says firefighters found one person dead inside. A second person, possibly a child was taken to a local hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Talmadge says the blaze was under control around 10:20 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
