SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco fire officials say a father and his young daughter died in an early morning blaze at a home in the city's Sunset District.
The girl's grandfather also suffered critical injuries. Her mother was able to escape.
Fire officials say crews were called to the scene around 1:30 a.m. Friday. The mother had come home from work and was awake, but the girl, her father and grandfather were asleep.
Fire officials say the mother smelled smoke and called 911.
Crews had the fire under control by about 2 a.m., although they were delayed from entering the home by a metal gate they had to cut through.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The home did have working smoke detectors.
