ALTADENA, Calif. (AP) — Rescue crews using a helicopter have resumed a search for two hikers missing in the rugged mountains of a Southern California nature preserve.

Los Angeles County Sheriff's officials say the two men in their 20s called 911 Wednesday evening saying they were lost the Eaton Canyon Natural Area north of Altadena.

About a dozen personnel searched into the night before abandoning the effort at about 2 a.m. They resumed at dawn Thursday.

Overnight temperatures dipped into the mid-40s and there were scattered showers.

Officials say they don't know where in the park the hikers were headed.

Eaton Canyon is at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains about 15 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
