NIPOMO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say they have seized 233 roosters believed to be used for cockfighting while raiding a property on the Central Coast.

The San Luis Obispo County sheriff's office says deputies found two large compounds that were walled off from public view when they served a search warrant at the Nipomo property Friday.

Authorities said there, they found cages housing 233 roosters and evidence suggesting that they were raised and kept for the purpose of cockfighting.

No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.

Cockfighting is misdemeanor punishable by 6 months in county jail and a fine of up to $10,000.
