SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Officials say three San Bernardino County courthouses will close before summer and 44 jobs will be lost as a result of budget cuts.

The Riverside Press-Enterprise reports courthouses in Barstow, Needles and Big Bear Lake will close by May as a result of a $5.3 million cut.

The county court system now has a budget of $105.2 million, and 950 employees.

The latest closures come in addition to the scheduled closure of the Chino court in January.

Court executive officer Stephen Nash says despite the cuts, the courts anticipate a budget deficit of $13 million, so another round of severe cuts is probable.

County courts have been closing throughout California as a result of state budget cuts.
