FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Fresno County Sheriff's officials say four people have been arrested in connection with a gunshot that hit a deputy's pocket knife, sparing him from a bullet wound.
The Fresno Bee reports that the four — identified only as men in their 20s — were shooting rifles in the backyard of a home in the county's foothills on Sunday when the bullet flew toward Deputy John Capriola. But instead of hitting the deputy, it ricocheted off his knife, leaving him with just a bruise.
Capriola was responding to a call of shots fired in the area. Sheriff's officials say after his pocketknife was struck, a sheriff's helicopter spotted the men shooting in a backyard.
They were booked on suspicion of felony negligent discharge of a firearm before being released on bail on Monday.
