LOS ANGELES (AP) — Eight Los Angeles police officers who mistakenly shot newspaper delivery women while guarding a target of fugitive ex-cop Christopher Dorner remain out of the field pending an internal investigation.
LAPD Lt. Andrew Neiman says the officers who were on a protection detail in Torrance, Calif. are assigned to non-field positions and will remain there until police Chief Charlie Beck decides otherwise.
Margie Carranza, 47, and her mother, Emma Hernandez, 71, were delivering newspapers in their blue pickup truck at about 5 a.m. Feb. 7 when officers fired at least 100 rounds at them, according to their attorney Glen Jonas. He says the truck has 102 bullet holes in it, some of which are doubled.
The women are still awaiting a new pickup truck promised to them by Beck, Jonas says.
