GOLETA, Calif. (AP) — Authorities are trying to determine the source of a 25-foot panga boat found on a Goleta beach with no one onboard.

KEYT-TV reports that the single-engine boat named Alondra was discovered Friday morning.

It contained gas cans, water bottles, life vests and duffel bags, but no people.

Homeland Security officials are leading the investigation.

Pangas are open hull fishing boats that are often used to smuggle drugs or people from Mexico.

Authorities intercepted one filled with marijuana and 11 illegal immigrants on a Santa Barbara County beach last month.
