ELKO, Nev. (AP) — The U.S. Bureau of Land Management's longtime district manager for northeast Nevada has announced his retirement after 35 years of federal service.
Kenneth Miller has been in charge of the Elko district since July 2007. He began his BLM career in 1980 as a soil scientist in Ely.
He moved to the Las Vegas District Office in 1985 before going on active duty in 1987 with the Nevada Army National Guard in Elko and served until August 1991.
Miller also worked as a natural resource specialist for the BLM in Idaho, served as the agency's budget officer for that state and was field manager in Burley, Idaho before taking the Elko job.
His replacement is Jill Silvey, currently the BLM field officer in Salt Lake City. She starts Feb. 24.
