CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada lawmakers are considering ramping up penalties for people performing medical procedures without the proper licensing.
Special Deputy Attorney General Brett Kandt of the Nevada Attorney General's Office presented SB 199 to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.
Under the bill, performing a non-surgical procedure would incur a category C felony and up to five years in prison for the first offense. Subsequent offenses would be category B felonies with up to 20 years in prison.
Surgical procedures would have the same penalties, unless substantial bodily harm or death occur, in which case first offenses would be category B felonies.
Cases could still be augmented by battery or murder charges depending on the circumstances.
Currently, penalties range from gross misdemeanors to category D felonies with up to four years imprisonment.
