SAN DIEGO (AP) — Sheriff's officials say a body has been found in a wooded area of San Diego County near where a man with Alzheimer's disease went missing last week.

U-T San Diego reports someone called authorities Wednesday afternoon to report an unusual odor in the Ramona area.

Lt. Jeffrey Duckworth says responding deputies discovered a body in heavy brush on unfenced private land, about 50 yards from a road.

The medical examiner will determine the person's identity and cause of death.

The newspaper says the body was found about two miles from the Ramona residence of Carl Salayer. The 66-year-old Alzheimer's patient walked away from home June 17.

Dozens of deputies and volunteers searched for Salayer for several days.
