REDDING, Calif. (AP) — The body of a man who jumped into a river while running away from police in Northern California has been discovered.

Shasta County Sheriff's officials say a fisherman came across 48-year-old Darryl Brice Cunningham's body on Monday afternoon in the Sacramento River in Redding. The Coroner's Office confirmed the identity.

Cunningham jumped off a bridge about a quarter mile upstream from where he was found during a police pursuit on March 29. Redding police have said Cunningham was fighting with a woman and ran when he was approached by an officer.

Cunningham was wanted on a felony warrant for a probation violation.

Sheriff's Lt. Eric Magrini tells the Record Searchlight of Redding ( the river is shallow, and the fall may have played a role in Cunningham's death.
