PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California man who is the son of former eHarmony CEO Jaynie Studenmund was among five soldiers killed in this week's friendly fire airstrike in Afghanistan.

Jim Tranquada, a spokesman for Occidental College in Los Angeles, says he has the family's confirmation that Scott Studenmund died in Monday's attack. His father, Woody Studenmund, is an economics professor at the school. The Pasadena family couldn't be reached directly for comment.

The 24-year-old Green Beret 's death also was confirmed with family permission Wednesday by Flintridge Preparatory School. The school says Studenmund, who graduated in 2008, played football, ran track and loved military history.

The school calls him "a brave, virtuous patriot."

Pasadena's mayor has asked that flags in the city be flown at half-staff.
