LAS VEGAS (AP) — A California youth pastor accused of murder after an altercation outside a Las Vegas pub last summer is due in court.

Robert Lynn Cox is charged in the death of 55-year-old Link Ellingson, who died of hemorrhaging in December. Cox is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Family and friends say Cox was on trip with church members and stopped for a late-night dinner at the Four Kegs pub on June 13, 2013. Group members say Ellingson approached the group, threatened them and assaulted them before Cox grabbed the man and both fell.

Ellingson hit his head and died months later.

Las Vegas police say Cox initially said he punched Ellingson but later told a different story.

Cox is a youth pastor at Place of Refuge church in Manteca.
