GERBERVILLE, Calif. (AP) — Humboldt County, Calif. authorities say they have recovered a stockpile of 111 firearms from a 55-acre Gerberville property where they also found 117 pounds of dried marijuana, ammunition, body armor and $12,000 in cash.
Humboldt Sheriff's Lt. Steve Knight said deputies located the bulk of the weapons on Tuesday stashed in a brush-covered cave on the land. Among the weapons seized were a World War II-era automatic machine gun, full belt of ammunition, semiautomatic handguns and Soviet semi-automatic rifles.
Knight says investigators think the weapons and the drugs were destined to be sold illegally and that the department is glad they won't end up on the black market.
Deputies obtained a warrant to search the property after they arrested a 30-year-old man on a probation violation from earlier gun and marijuana charges.
