BALDWIN PARK, Calif. (AP) — A cat is recovering after it was dropped off at a Southern California animal shelter with its head and paws wrapped in duct tape.

The San Gabriel Valley Tribune says the 2-year-old male cat was found Thursday at the Baldwin Park shelter. A worker spotted a box in the parking lot, opened it and found a cat with its mouth and nose wrapped in red duct tape, gasping for breath. Its feet also were taped.

Los Angeles County animal control officers say the cat is recovering but will need more rehabilitation time before he's ready for adoption.
