LAS VEGAS (AP) — Fire officials say initial reports that people were trapped in a two-alarm apartment blaze east of the Las Vegas Strip turned out to be false, and the cause of the overnight fire is being investigated.

Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Jon Klassen says no residents or firefighters were injured.

The fire was reported a little before 2 a.m. Thursday at the Century Village apartment complex on Spencer Street near Tropicana Avenue.

More than 60 firefighters from Las Vegas and Clark County battled the fire that investigators say caused about $500,000 damage to four units of a 16-unit building.

A cause wasn't immediately determined.

American Red Cross spokeswoman Suzy McClain says her agency is helping nine people who were displaced by the fire.
