ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A 35-year-old Wells man has been charged with attempted murder after he alleged fired six gunshots at sheriff's deputies in Elko County.
Mark Allen Trathen also has been charged with four counts of possession of a firearm by an ex-felon in the Jan. 5 shooting that followed a confrontation at an Elko bar on Jan. 5.
Deputy James Mathes says Trathen then barricaded himself in his nearby apartment and began firing shots at Mathes and another deputy. He says one of the bullets came within about 20 yards of them.
Trathen agreed to surrender after hours of negotiations. His bail at the Elko County Jail is set at $617,000.
