LAS VEGAS (AP) — The fifth-largest school district in the country has reached an all-time enrollment milestone.
Clark County School District officials say they counted 315,087 students during a point-in-time count on Friday. Those numbers are expected to fluctuate as students move during the year.
Friday's count is more than 3,700 students above last year's enrollment record of 311,380 students.
The Las Vegas Sun reports the higher numbers are putting a strain on campuses. More than 30,000 elementary school students are in nearly 1,300 portable classrooms.
School board officials voted earlier this year to move three elementary schools to year-round schedules as a way to ease crowding.
