SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Police have shot to death a man in San Bernardino after he allegedly rammed patrol cars and tried to run down officers with a stolen car.
The Sun newspaper says police in neighboring Colton spotted the stolen car shortly before 1:30 a.m. Wednesday and tried to stop the driver, who eventually pulled over in San Bernardino.
Colton Detective Ray Mendez says the driver then threw the car into reverse, backed up at high speed and tried to hit officers. He also rammed two Colton police cars before an officer opened fire.
The man died at the scene. His name hasn't been released.
A woman passenger was treated at a hospital for minor injuries and wasn't immediately arrested.
