CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A man convicted of fatally shooting a Reno police officer in 2001 has died after being found unresponsive in his Carson City prison cell.
Nevada Department of Corrections officials say 62-year-old Larry Peck was pronounced dead Friday after being taken to Carson Tahoe Medical Center.
They say foul play is not suspected and a coroner will pinpoint his cause of death.
Peck, who had been held at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center since 2003, was convicted of fatally shooting Officer John Bohach during a standoff outside his home.
The August 2001 standoff occurred after an officer stopped Peck for a traffic violation and he sped away.
Peck was convicted of first-degree murder and resisting a public officer with a weapon.
