HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Authorities have identified a man who was shot dead by police after he reportedly stabbed an officer in Henderson.

Clark County coroner's officials say 51-year-old Jesse Vigil died in the confrontation that happened before dawn Tuesday near the intersection of Horizon Drive and Boulder Highway.

City spokeswoman Kathleen Richards says two officers had stopped a suspicious person who was riding a bike and were talking with the man when he became belligerent.

Officials say Vigil stabbed an officer, and the officers opened fire. Vigil was killed.

The officer who was stabbed was taken to the hospital with injuries that didn't appear to be life-threatening.
