RENO, Nev. (AP) — A burglar whose stash included the ashes of a Reno woman's deceased husband has been sentenced to five to 20 years in state prison in Nevada.
Washoe District Judge Scott Freeman sentenced Meredith O'Neill O'Flaherty on Monday as a habitual criminal with five prior felony convictions. The 41-year-old woman earlier pleaded guilty to the July 16 residential burglary when the ashes were taken along with numerous pieces of jewelry.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Kristin Erickson says investigators with the Repeat Offender Program were able to recover the cremains and return them to a grateful victim.
O'Flaherty will have to serve a minimum of five years before she can be considered for parole.
