SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — San Francisco dire officials say crews are battling a 5-alarm blaze at a two-story commercial building in the city's Mission District.

The fire was sending a plume of smoke into the area on Thursday afternoon.

San Francisco fire department spokeswoman Mindy Talmadge says more than 100 firefighters were on the scene of the blaze, which started shortly after 1 p.m.

The fire apparently began inside a retail store and quickly grew from two to five alarms in an hour. Talmadge says crews at some point moved away from the structure as a precautionary measure.

At least one firefighter and one civilian have been treated for smoke inhalation. No serious injuries have been reported.
