RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Jurors have recommended a death sentence for a former Marine that they convicted of killing another Marine and the man's wife in their Southern California home in 2008.
The Riverside County district attorney's office said the jury reached the decision Thursday for 27-year-old Kesaun Sykes after finding him guilty of two counts of murder with special circumstances earlier this month.
He is one of four former Marines charged in the murders of Sgt. Jan Pietrzak and his wife, Quiana Jenkins-Pietrzak.
Two of those men were sentenced to death and one was sentenced to life without parole.
Authorities say the couple was found bound and shot in the head in their home near Murrieta. Prosecutors say Pietrzak was assaulted and his wife sexually assaulted before they were killed.
