LOS ANGELES (AP) — Dozens of people have been arrested in a crackdown on a South Los Angeles gang whose members are alleged to have carried out murders and robberies and peddled drugs over two decades.

Federal prosecutors say FBI agents and police arrested 50 people Tuesday with ties to the Five Deuce Broadway Gangster Crips.

According to an indictment that names 72 people, gang members murdered four people, shot at California Highway Patrol officers and robbed bank customers. Weapons and drug-trafficking charges are also alleged.

Of the 72 named in the indictment, 48 were arrested Tuesday and 17 others were already in custody. Two others were arrested on separate charges. Eight others remain at large.

Police and the FBI partnered in the investigation as part of the FBI's Safe Streets Task Force program.
