RENO, Nev. (AP) — The gunman killed in a police shootout in Nevada after he was suspected of killing two women south of Reno has now been linked to a homicide investigation in Arizona.

Washoe County sheriff's deputies identified the dead gunman Wednesday as a former Arizona inmate who had been released from prison 11 days before the suspected double homicide in Washoe Valley on June 13.

Anthony Nelson, who was killed Friday in the desert 85 miles east of Reno, had been in prison since 2007 on a sexual assault charge.

Police in Tucson, Arizona, say Nelson was in possession of property belonging to 32-year-old Quincy Gangwer. Tucson police found his body in his home Monday after Nevada authorities asked them to do a welfare check.

Authorities identified the two Nevada victims as friends, ages 68 and 70, but are withholding their names.
